The Wits History Workshop, SWOP, FES and the Apartheid Museum, invite you to the launch of an exhibition of photographs by William Matlala: The complete worker: everyday lives and struggles of black workers, 1983-2018
Matlala began taking photographs in the 1980s, while working in a factory in Wadeville, focusing on the everyday lives of his fellow workers. He subsequently became employed as a photographer for COSATU, recording workers' lives, tracing their movement from union meetings to work and into their homes in the townships, hostels and compounds with a remarkable degree of insider access. As such his photographs form a valuable and unique record in the archives of South African photography. The exhibition is curated by Sally Gaule.
The exhibition will run at the Apartheid Museum from 2 September - 20 October 2018.
