Interview with Rev. Tsakane Sibanda and Qaba Mbola of Ujamaa collective
Updated: Jun 29
This is one of a series of conversations on Covid-19, the right to food and radical politics. Andrew Bennie, a co-founder of the food justice collective, We Will All Eat, spoke to Rev. Tsakani Sibanda and Qaba Mbola from the Ujamaa Collective, which works in the township of Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats, and is a Self Reliance / Self Awareness community initiative that strives for communal economic development and sharing based on a cooperative approach. Tsakani and Qaba provide a challenging critique of dominant food relief efforts and offer some thoughts on the need to overcome historical patterns of social and racial inequality in order for the right to food to be met for all.
