Emeritus Prof Eddie Webster, founder of the sub discipline of Industrial Sociology in South Africa, and founder also of SWOP 32 years ago, has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by his Alma Mater, the still so-named Rhodes University. His Honorary Doctorate from Wits University will be awarded next year. These honours are richly deserved recognition of his contribution to scholarship, to broader social change, and to problematising the relationship between University and society over his working life.
